The semi-positive space program

Give us the tools to think for ourselves instead of giving us a list of socially acceptable terms to parrot — the Queen’s community will be better off for it.

Marching against a platform of hate- Joining the Women's March on Washington in Kingston

I’m not afraid of a short-fingered vulgarian with shaky policies and the skin of a hotdog. I’m afraid of the white nationalists and their like-minded followers that will have their oppressive ideologies validated by him. I didn’t march because I’m naïve enough to believe a man who bullied his way to one of the most powerful leadership positions in the world will be stopped by a peaceful group of women in a different country. I marched because I refuse to allow a platform for hate to exist in my community.

Being the one in four- How I faced my experience of campus sexual assault

The rape culture on campuses will only change when students start caring and taking responsibility for the environment and culture we create on our own campuses.

Of Course, Me Too

But it’s not my job to remind you how pervasive sexual violence is.

About

Michelle K Allan

My name is Michelle and I'm a GTA-based writer and budding journalist. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen's University with a major in English and a History/Jewish Studies minor.

During my studies at Queen's, I served as a Journalist for Inquire Publication, Editor for The Undergraduate Review, Reporter and Sports Coordinator for CFRC 101.9, and Assistant Editor of Photography/Staff Writer for The Queen's Journal.

Last summer I interned at The Beaverton, a satirical Canadian news publication. I did graphics and writing for both the online publication and the TV show.

I also found time during my undergrad to complete a study abroad program in Elizabethan Shakespeare and British Studies at the Bader International Study Centre in Great Britain, host the Queen's Poetry Slam, and contribute to rewriting Queen's Sexual Violence Policy.

Outside of my journalistic endeavours, I'm interested in photography and graphic design and have previously used these skills at companies such as The Beaverton, Queen's Arts and Science Undergraduate Society, and The Queen's Journal.

My influences include Rebecca Solnit, Hannah Arendt, and Katharine Graham. In my spare time, I enjoy skiing, going to independent movie theatres, and the works of David Sedaris.
